Scherzo Homage To Prokofiev
$4.95
Scherzo – Homage to Prokofiev is one of my earliest works. As a young composition student in Tel-Aviv, I was starting to discover and to shape my musical language. At the time, I realized that to create my own musical language, I must first delve into the music of the great masters, explore the compositions which had a profound impact on me, and analyze the music that I most appreciate and adore. Being an avid admirer of Sergei Prokofiev, I decided to create a style-study that imitates and evokes Prokofiev’s musical language. This work combines several contrasting elements: while it is primarily tonal, the main theme (appearing in the right hand, measures 3-5) is a pure 12-tone row. The middle section offers an expanded tonality with strong chromaticism as well as several polyharmonic gestures. Despite the brevity of the piece – just a little of three minutes – I clearly remember that it took several months and an abundance of frustrating moments before it was completed. Thus, Scherzo was the perfect introduction to the world of music composition and an important milestone in my journey as a young composer.
